Ford Mustang Bullitt Edition: from the first model to the 2019’s

We all remember the famous Steve McQueen car chase in the 1968 movie Bullitt. This movie propelled the Mustang GT to the rank of mythical car! During the course of the years, this model evolved and its story has not ended yet: the 2019 Ford Mustang was introduced recently at the Detroit Auto Show. Chartrand Ford, your Ford car dealer from Laval, near Montreal, will tell you more about the story of the Bullitt Edition.

The 1968 Ford Mustang GT

Everything started in 1968 during a presentation of the very first Ford Bullitt model. It was an 8-cylinder muscle car capable of delivering up to 325 HP. This vehicle came with a 4-speed manual transmission. Even though this model was not impressive by today’s standard, it was iconic at the time!

The 2001 Ford Mustang Bullitt

Empowered by its success, Ford decided to manufacture a new model in 2001, which was presented at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The performance was not better per say, since the 2001’s model only added 5 HP and the suspension was a bit weaker than the original. However, the body of the car was a thing of beauty, something never seen before. Plus, it was sporting a Bullitt logo.

The 2008 Ford Mustang Bullitt

This model was a great success. Once again, the exterior was the main selling point. More minimalistic than its predecessors, the 2008 Ford Mustang lost some of the charm and the characteristics that distinguished the original model. On the performance side, however, the 2008 version came with 15 additional HP and the muffler has been redesigned and brought closer to the 1968’s.

The latest version comes without spoilers and badges. With a rounded shapes and an even more refined design, this model seriously refreshes the line. It has a dark green color reminiscent of the 1968’s version, but that’s about it, since the performance has been dramatically improved. We’re talking about a 5-liter, 8-cylinder engine that delivers 475 HP and allows the car to reach a top speed of 260 km/h!
